Ok folks this one almost got by me. Here we have another altercation between a student and a teacher. Teachers deserve the utmost respect especially the effective ones because it's my opinion that public schools are nothing more than a big daycare.

Blog EntrySomethin' on my Mind...somethin' on my MinD!May 29, '08 7:45 PM
for everyone

I swear it makes me wanna holler! But I already hear and see the silent scream of those who look just like Me. It makes me scared inside. I'm scared because the reality today looks bad ya'll and when I look around no one seems to really care. Do you hear me? Can you hear me? It's taking out the womb of the world and no one seems to care. I feel a little panicky, but that won't help those who are sleep walking through their youth thinking it can't and won't happen to them, but it will and is happening.  It's on our college campus' ya'll and when the young women walk across the stage to get their diplomas they are definately leaving with more than what they came with.  It's breathing down our backs hot, quiet, nasty breath. The big disease with a little name. Is the number one killer of African American Females ages 25-44. Most women contract the virus through high risk heterosexual acts.

Here recently I have been working with young women and D-a-i-l-y  young black women 19, 20, 22, 25 come through who have the virus. Whats shocking is that they have it, but even more so the attitude some of them have is incomprehensible. The woman today 22 years old said, "Yeah, I have unprotected sex...someone gave it to me..." What could be sadder than that? The young woman is 18 weeks pregnant. I hear a lot of stories and often bear withness to the toll naivety, bad choices, poor life preparation, abuse and low self-esteem can exact. It's horrible and scary because I know that  but for the grace of GOD goes me. I know that one mistake early on can change your whole life. But I worry that others especially young women don't believe it can happen to them. I don't think it is real to people yet.

I don't know exactly what it is about this young woman's history that has struck me so.  Why can't I shake her? What can I do to make a difference in my community to slow down the progression of this disease that has reached epidemic proportions?

Blog Entry9K per year to operate your vehicle.Apr 29, '08 6:37 PM
for everyone

Rising gas prices and other costs will result in the average North Carolina driver paying an extra $2,000 this year, AAA Carolinas said Tuesday.

Drivers will pay an average of 63 cents for every mile they drive their car in 2008, the organization said. The amount is 14 cents per mile higher than 2007 and is the largest one-year increase ever reported, AAA said.

The rate, which includes higher gas prices, car prices and insurance costs, translates to an extra cost of more than $2,000 for a person driving the average car 15,000 miles.

“The price of gas is the most uncontrollable factor in operating costs for motorists,” David Parsons, president and chief executive of AAA Carolinas, said in a statement. “Driving less miles will actually increase the cost-per-mile-driven because two-thirds of the dollars spent in operating a motor vehicle are fixed, but a person’s out-of-pocket expenses will be less.”

Car prices have risen, on average, more than $2,000 in the past year, and insurance costs have gone up as well, about $190 on average, AAA said.

Based on driving 15,000 miles a year, a car owner would spend about $9,415 for insurance, maintenance, gas, tires, taxes, registration, depreciation and finance charges this year.

Separate calculations were done for sport utility vehicles, which would cost $12,027 a year to own and operate, and for minivans, which would cost $11,040 a year to own and operate.

Cops: 3 kids abducted at gunpoint

Thu Feb 14, 12:13 AM ET

Police in California are looking for three children who were abducted at gunpoint.

Police say the children were taken Wednesday from their foster parents by the children's parents in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in Carson, Calif.

Authorities say their mother was armed with a handgun. They say she and her husband went to the parking lot for a scheduled visit. The children range in age from 2 to 11.

Police say she took the children from the foster parents' vehicle and put them in her car. Authorities say the suspects then fled in a green 2000 Land Rover.

Police have issued an Amber Alert for the children.

By MARCUS FRANKLIN, Associated Press WriterTue Jan 8, 10:18 PM ET

Two men wheeled a dead man through the streets in an office chair to a check-cashing store and tried to cash his Social Security check before being arrested on fraud charges, police said.

David J. Dalaia and James O'Hare pushed Virgilio Cintron's body from the Manhattan apartment that O'Hare and Cintron shared to Pay-O-Matic, about a block away, spokesman Paul Browne said witnesses told police.

"The witnesses saw the two pushing the chair with Cintron flopping from side to side and the two individuals propping him up and keeping him from flopping from side to side," Browne said.

The men left Cintron's body outside the store, went inside and tried to cash his $355 check, Browne said. The store's clerk, who knew Cintron, asked the men where he was, and O'Hare told the clerk they would go and get him, Browne said.

A police detective who was having lunch at a restaurant next to the check-cashing store noticed a crowd forming around Cintron's body, and "it's immediately apparent to him that Cintron is dead," Browne said.

The detective called uniformed New York Police Department officers at a nearby precinct. Emergency medical technicians arrived as O'Hare and Dalaia were preparing to wheel Cintron's body into the check-cashing store, Browne said. Police arrested Dalaia and O'Hare there, he said.

Cintron's body was taken to a hospital morgue. The medical examiner's office told police it appeared Cintron, 66, had died of natural causes within the previous 24 hours, Browne said.

"He was deceased in the apartment when he was removed by these two," Browne said.

Dalaia and O'Hare, both 65, were being held by police and faced check fraud charges, Browne said.

A call to a telephone number listed for Cintron at the apartment he shared with O'Hare went unanswered Tuesday evening. Police said they didn't have an address for Dalaia or attorney information for him or O'Hare.

Blog EntrySometimes I drive fast Sometimes I drive slowDec 30, '07 11:21 AM
    for everyone

Like the title says sometimes I drive fast and sometimes I drive slow. On those occasions where I drive slow I move over to the right so that those who are going faster may get by. And naturally following on those days when I feel the need to go a bit faster I mover over to the left and give 'er some gas. These things I hold to be common road rules to be followed by all who hold licenses. Why then do people who go slow get in the fast lane?? Why do you have to get in the slow lane to go faster than in the left lane? Did the laws change and I didn't know? How do you deal with issues like this and others? Please watch this vid if you haven't seen it before. Well here in my town there is a new program for good citizens they call it a traffic calming measure. Residents sign up to obey all the rules of the road including the speed limit. They agree not to go any faster than the posted seed limit. The good citizens sign a pledge form and receive via mail magnetic stickers to prominently post on the back of their vehicles to let everyone know they are pace cars. There is even an additional sticker to place on the inside of the car to serve as a reminder for the pledge bearer. This concept is to help slow speeders and change the mindset that five or ten miles per hour above the speed limit is not acceptable. After viewing the video do you think this is smart?

More and more I've come into contact with these Pace Car member and let me tell you it's very freaking irritating. I was trying to get to work and who do I have in front of me? Yes, two wonderfully obedient Pace car member gleefully following all the dayum rules. They, like the video had all this road in front of them, but because they were pace cars they felt they were doing the right thing by blocking myself and others from getting by. I began to get frustrated, I turned on the music, but that didn't help because I could not believe these guys. I called my girlfriend to vent she started laughing and told me to calm down. Calm down! All the cars in front of them had gone what felt like several miles up the road and I was stuck behind these idiots. I began blowing my horn. My friend actually told me I was wrong for blowing my horn that I was behaving as if I had road rage. I tried to explain to her that actually if they want to go slower the rules say move over to the right, to the right, to the right! I kept blowing my horn until the Expedition driving pace car member finally moved from the left lane into the right lane and allowed me and the chain of cars behind me to safely pass him. When I did pass him he flashed his high beams on me a couple of times. I guess if he was a police officer he would have given me a ticket. http://www.durhampolice.com/forms/form_pacecar.cfm

Would you want a program like this in your community? I think in theory it sounds like wonderland, but in practice it's...well, you know how I feel. How should I handle this the next time I get in this situation so I don't look like road rage lady, and is making sure you obey the laws of the road the role of the average citizen?
